MARIELLE KOEMAN & JOS VAN BEEST TRIO
A professional Jazzband (vocals, piano, drums, bass, ), which has built up a formidable reputation over the last 30 years, and shook the jazz-charts in Japan.
MARIELLE KOEMAN is one of those lady singers, who were given a sound from Mother Nature itself. Her voice embodies warmth, depth and a natural sound as composers of her meticulously chosen repertoire must have meant it to be.Marielle grew up in a family where music played an important role. Her father, singer HELMUTH KOEMAN, introduced his daughter to jazz music at a very early age and together they listened to jazz legends as FRANK SINATRA, MEL TORME, ELLA FITZGERALD, SHIRLEY HORN and many others. At the age of six she already started singing ‘jazzy’ songs whilst accompanying herself at the piano. At the age of eighteen she started taking classical singing lessons. When her musical career started taking of in a serious manner she divided her time between the two disciplines jazz and classical, which both still have her preferences.
Besides her passion for performing at classical recitals, she also frees up time for her second passion in life: Jazz Music. Her début album ‘FROM THE HEART’ was successfully released in 2002 in Japan and received excellent press, the album was ranked highly for an extensive period at the major JAPANESE HMV-JAZZCHARTS.
The so called ‘American songbook’ repertoire has her preference. Soft-swing with lyrical ballads, swinging sambas and bossa nova’s are interpreted in her own special way. Especially her diversity in spoken language is notable. She performs compositions of ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM in Brazilian (Portuguese) and FRANZ LEHAR’s ‘Dein ist mein ganzes herz’ in her personal 'jazzy' German. She also performs different songs of her extensive repertoire in French and off course in flawless English.
First lady of Jazz’ singer RITA REYS, personally told Marielle being very impressed by her singing ability and her special way of musical interpretation. The unique combination of melody and text makes you feel ‘she gets under your skin’.
During their first tour in JAPAN, in November 2002, Marielle performed in three successful concerts, accompanied by her husband, piano player JOS VAN BEEST and his trio, in OSAKA and TOKYO.
In November 2004, during another very successful tour through Japan, they launched their second album ‘BETWEEN TOU AND ME’. This event took place in ‘the’ Concert hall of Japan, the TRIPHONY MUSIC HALL in TOKYO. Following that they performed at several concerts in 4 major cities in Japan. Just a week after launching, the album was ranked 5th in Japan’s most important ‘HIS MASTERS VOICE, JAZZ-VOCAL BEST CHART‘ and was ranked 1st the third week.
